Kashmir Heatwave Impacts Amarnath Yatra, Accelerates Shivling Melting

The sacred ice Shivling within the Amarnath cave shrine is melting at a concerning pace due to an intense heatwave gripping Kashmir. This unusual weather event is significantly impacting the experience of pilgrims undertaking the annual Amarnath Yatra.

Heatwave Creates Challenges for Pilgrims

The soaring temperatures are creating difficult conditions for the pilgrims journeying to the high-altitude shrine. The rapid melting of the ice Shivling, a central focus of the pilgrimage, is also causing concern amongst devotees.

Early Melting Raises Concerns

The Shivling has melted considerably within the first 10 days of the Yatra, much earlier than expected. This unprecedented melting rate is attributed to the extreme heat currently affecting the region, raising questions about the long-term impact of climate change on this sacred site.
