In the vibrant narrative of Indian martial arts and grassroots sports reform, Master Shreepada R. Rao emerges not merely as an instructor or administrator, but as a changemaker—a visionary who harnesses the power of Taekwondo to uplift individuals, transform institutions, and empower communities.
A Humble Beginning Rooted in Discipline
Born in Puttur, Dakshina Kannada, and raised with strong values of discipline and dedication, Shreepada R. Rao’s journey began with Shito Ryu Karate at the age of nine. His martial arts path evolved through Shotokan Karate before fully embracing Taekwondo under Master Subhash Yadav. By the age of sixteen, he had found his lifelong passion and purpose.
Karnataka’s First World Taekwondo Certified International Coach
Breaking new ground, Master Rao earned Karnataka’s first World Taekwondo Level I International Coach Certification in 2020. In 2024, he reached Level II status—an achievement that enabled him to coach at the elite international level and marked him as a key figure in global martial arts.
Academic Rigor Meets Athletic Purpose
Armed with a Master’s in Physical Education, a PG Diploma in Sports Coaching, and currently pursuing a Doctorate in Sports Administration and Management, Master Rao brings academic depth to every endeavor. His training at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) Patiala refined his skills in biomechanics, physiology, psychology, and coaching science, allowing him to build evidence-based coaching programs.
Grassroots Development and Inclusive Leadership
As the CEO of the Belagavi District Taekwondo Association (2018–2022), Master Rao revolutionized district-level governance. He introduced digitized systems, tournament standardization, rural inclusion policies, and sustainable infrastructure for long-term athlete development. His inclusive leadership became a model for other districts.
His Yuva Academy, established in Kakati Village in 2012, focuses on training rural and underprivileged youth in martial arts. Through this center, Rao has created a culture of empowerment and resilience for hundreds of students.
Global Footprint and International Acclaim
Rao’s contributions reached global audiences through programs such as the 2023 World Taekwondo Partnership Programme in South Korea. His training under global mentors and participation in international forums, including the World Para Taekwondo Workshop, has elevated his stature as a thought leader in sports diplomacy.
His induction into the World Sports Martial Arts Council (USA) Hall of Fame and the Taekwondo Hall of Fame India (2022) cemented his place among the nation’s most influential martial arts figures.
Empowering Women and Youth through Yakshit Yuva Foundation
Beyond sport, Rao leads as Chairman of the Yakshit Yuva Foundation, spearheading the “Kick & Shout” self-defence campaign across Karnataka. With a focus on educating women, students, and NGOs in safety techniques and awareness, he has directly impacted over 2,000 lives with tools for confidence and self-reliance.
Strategic Roles in Education and Governance
He has been instrumental in integrating Taekwondo into university sports programs, notably at Rani Channamma University, and has served as Technical Head, Tournament Director, and Chief Referee in key zonal and state-level championships.
As a National Referee Class II and technical consultant, his precision and fairness have uplifted the standards of competitive Taekwondo across South India.
Looking Ahead: A Vision Beyond the Arena
Master Rao’s vision continues to expand—whether through doctoral research, institutional collaborations, or national sports policy advocacy. He envisions a system where martial arts is not just a discipline but a catalyst for social development, youth leadership, and gender empowerment.
In every dojo he builds, every student he mentors, and every community he uplifts, Master Shreepada R. Rao embodies the true spirit of a changemaker: committed, compassionate, and constantly in pursuit of collective progress through personal discipline.
