Air India Ahmedabad Crash: Pilots Union Seeks Inclusion in Investigation

Following the release of the preliminary report into the Air India Ahmedabad crash, the pilots’ union, ALPA India, has formally requested to participate in the ongoing investigation.

Pilots Seek Observer Status in AAIB Probe

Captain Sam Thomas, President of ALPA India, urged the government to grant the union observer status within the Air India Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) investigation. This request comes after the preliminary report revealed a critical detail: both fuel control switches, responsible for supplying fuel to the engines of Flight 171, were turned off in quick succession, effectively shutting down both engines.

Preliminary Report Raises Concerns, Prompts Union Request

The concerning findings within the preliminary report have prompted the pilots’ union to seek a more active role in the investigation, hoping to provide valuable insights and expertise from a pilot’s perspective. This move aims to contribute towards a comprehensive understanding of the events leading to the crash and ultimately enhance aviation safety.
